Delta Scientific, best known for the “Delta barriers” installed at U.S. Government facilities worldwide, has now deployed its first “bio-defense Mail Room Inspection BioBooth” to an unnamed U.S. embassy in Europe. The “BioBooth” is a self contained booth designed to screen mail which might contain bio hazards. The booth is large enough to sort mail and has a laboratory hood with a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter. HEPA filters are used to prevent the spread of airborne bacterial and viral organisms such as anthrax. The “BioBooth” also has a controlled drainage system which can be used to contain hazardous liquids found in any mail. One very appealing feature of the BioBooth is that it can be sealed if contaminated and removed from the area. Another BioBooth can subsequently be installed as a replacement thereby minimizing disruptions to mail screening.
A “BioBooth” would be a very valuable addition to any mail screening system used in EP. Screening the mail for explosives is a fairly common facet of EP but with the increasing use of anthrax and ricin as terrorist weapons, screening for these substances should also be a standard practice.
As a reminder, I have nothing to do with Delta Scientific.
